Furniture glides are small yet powerful protectors for patio furniture’s bottom surfaces from damage by reducing friction during movement. Plus they add style and a sense of functionality!
Slings
Slings are used on outdoor patio furniture to hold chairs or chaise loungers up. Constructed with multiple high-tenacity yarns that are covered by either nylon or polyester sleeve protecting them from environmental elements, slings come in an assortment of colors and finishes for your convenience. When selecting a sling, it is crucial to take into account its color and strength as well as how it will react against UV exposure, chemicals, water or freezing temperatures – factors which could reduce its longevity. When a sling shows any indications of damage, such as cuts, snags, holes, weld spatter or melting, it should be immediately taken out of service and examined by an accredited person to ensure it has not exceeded its Working Load Limit (WLL).
Reinstalling new slings is usually straightforward, but taking out old splines may prove more complex. Plastic splines exposed to sunlight for long periods can become extremely brittle and stiff; as a solution it may help to use heat sources such as a hair dryer when working with these stiff plastic lines to soften and make them more manageable.
Once the splines have been softened, installing new sling fabric should be straightforward. Once all slings are in, however, installing spreader bars (metal bars which sit between sling rails to keep fabric taut and prevent it from sagging) may prove more complex for some people; manufacturers and furniture repair centers usually utilize special tools for this step while homeowners may use anything from wood pieces wrapped with duct tape around vise grip pliers as “makeshift tools” in order to install spreader bars as needed.
Protective furniture weights are another useful addition to outdoor patio furniture that can provide extra security in case of sudden summer storms. They’re particularly effective if living in areas prone to sudden downpours.
Straps
Straps are flexible pieces of material used to secure or fasten items together. Common examples are fabric straps which can be attached via metal clips or pegs; on Tropitone contract furniture these straps are double-wrapped to increase durability and longevity – an essential feature in environments demanding the highest level of outdoor patio furniture durability.
When your slings and straps begin to look worn and faded, it is time for replacement. At The Southern Company’s talented craftsmen can transform a replacement set back into something brand new by selecting color coordinated sling fabrics and the strongest lacing available. Once removed from their frames, old slings and straps will be carefully examined for broken welds, weak swivel mechanisms or any structural flaws which might compromise safety of their pieces.
Installing new vinyl straps requires heating them in hot water before stretching them over furniture, using golf gloves to avoid finger burn when handling heated straps. To measure their length correctly, begin at one end and wrap a cloth tape measure around from side to side before subtracting ten percent from this measurement – this ensures your new straps will fit exactly as they should without being too long or short.
Quality vinyl straps should last 10-15 years depending on their exposure to sun and rain, with regular washing using mild soap solution and water as part of maintenance. A spray of FeronClean or similar commercial vinyl cleaner may help remove stubborn dirt or mildew build-up more effectively.
Protective patio furniture weights are an indispensable addition to your outdoor furniture set-up. Not only will these weights keep tables, chairs and other pieces stable during sudden summer storms that could otherwise topple them over, they can also be used to anchor umbrellas and other freestanding shade structures.
End Caps & Inserts
Plastic end caps, often neglected by customers, serve to seal off aluminum tubing on chair frames and give patio furniture a finished look. They’re an effective replacement for worn out and broken glides and should always be installed securely to maintain performance and longevity.
Glides are protective footings installed under chairs and chaise lounges to prevent scratches to the floor when moving them, and reduce noise and friction during movement. We carry outdoor chair glides for Brown Jordan, Tropitone Winston Carter Grandle Lloyd Flanders Woodard models.
These tube inserts, commonly referred to as push in end caps, plugs or bungs, are strong and durable plugs designed to cover the ends of tubes on furniture legs or anywhere a finished appearance is desired. Their additional benefit includes helping prevent dirt, moisture and insects from entering applications; their black color provides stability, longevity and strength – measuring out at the outside diameter for easy reference. Installing these inserts is straightforward, beginning either from the end cap or rub rail. Simply use a heat gun to carefully heat a few inches of the top leg until it compresses with a pinch and insert it into the rub rail channel in three foot increments until your entire insert has been secured – tapping may be required to secure.
Hardware
Hardware on your patio furniture helps the parts of its frame connect, connect with sling fabric and give it a finished aesthetic. Glides are protective footings attached to casual outdoor metal furniture like chairs and chaise lounges that help prevent surface scratches during movement, as well as friction from friction when moving them around. Weld cups and base inserts snap onto cushioned glide bases or Sierra style steel bases and ensure your furniture remains stable in any position – they also come in standard US sizes that make replacement pieces available from Brown Jordan, Tropitone or Winston manufacturers! Hardware comes in various US standard sizes; many pieces available as replacements from these manufacturers are also available as original manufacturer parts from these companies!
